On the 3 October 2002 the EU adopted the Animal By-Product Regulations. The main aim of the Regulations is to prevent animal by-products from presenting a risk to animal or public health through the transmission of disease.
This aim is achived by introducing rules about the transportation, storage and processing of animal by-products - essentially this means that no food waste derived from meat can go to landfill.
The Regulations will effect all those who deal in animal by-products, including slaughterhouses, food manufacturers and catering outlets.
